Shear Blades

About Shear Blades

Shear blades are used to cut the molten glass into gobs. The blades are required to be sharp, manufactured from high speed steel a grade which is able to resist the cutting pressures and stay sharper for longer. The blades are precisely set on a jig to ensure they are level with the opposite cutting blade to achieve a clean cut gob. The blades always cut past the cut point and on the outward stoke are cooled with cooling fluid to prevent sticking and overheating. The blades are mounted on the shear mechanism arms.

What Can D A Oldfield Ltd Provide

  • D A Oldfield Ltd. sell shear blades that are ground in pairs so the blades match their opposite giving a clean cut.
  • Our blades are made from high speed steel (M3) which is hardened throughout so will not go soft through wear, which causes blunt blades and ultimately problem gobs.
  • We also offer shear blade setting fixtures and shear mechanism arm jigs.
