The purpose of the Funnel Box is to guide the gob after the Shear Mechanism into the top of the Gob Distributor, this eliminates any inaccuracies between the two machines.

Additionally, it accelerates the gobs, allowing the two machines to work faster and load more evenly.

This is especially useful on large machines with 10 – 12 sections, where the distance to travel is greater for the outer sections.

Research has been conducted at Sheffield Hallam University to optimise the angle, size, quantity and position of jet holes in the Funnel Box to achieve up to 20% faster loading when compared to simple gravity fed systems.  

The D A Oldfield Ltd. Funnel Box can achieve this by sucking the gobs into a funnel through the use of precisely positioned jet holes, using these, it blasts oil and compressed air evenly around the gob forcing them to accelerate through the funnel box and into the gob distributor.
