Shear Mechanisms

Angular Shear Mechanisms

The primary function of the mechanism is to repeatedly move the arms, which hold the shear blades, to cut on the inward stroke and to cool on its return. They are mounted on the side of the feeder spout bowl with the arms hanging underneath at the cut point area. The shear mechanism is driven and timed by the feeder mechanism through a connection link into one of the shear mechanism’s arms. A cam on the feeder mechanism sets the velocity of the cut to suit the gob being formed.

Servo Shear Mechanism

The servo shear mechanism has replaced the angular shear mechanism on the more modern feeders. The main differences are that it cuts in a parallel motion rather than angular; it utilises servo motor controls, so job changes faster and it operates at higher speeds.
